Have you ever looked at the CodePress Admin Columns plugin? I've been using for about a year to add columns on in the admin overview areas for posts, media etc.
Anyway, this plugin functions nicely with Toolset. I just upgraded to the pro version today.
It can be used to display all of the Types custom fields and perform inline edits on most fields right in the admin screen.
I was able to go through 400 posts in 2 hours this afternoon to update all of the excerpts manually.
I did this by displaying the "my shop specializes in" field, copying and pasting into the excerpt field. In addition, I was able to set featured images…all from the admin post overview screen.
I will test the SQL query this next week and see how it goes.
