Just to add – even though I wasn't able to insert the 'sidebar search' into my Categories taxonomy archive template, I've managed to achieve the result I was after by adding it to a sidebar widget instead, so please don't make any changes to my site.
If you could just let me know where I went wrong in trying to add the View or point me to a tutorial that'd be great.
