Simply trying to create my first Single Page layout and having problems

Hello,

I just bought Views and and to start out I'm just trying to use it to control the single page look of my custom type called "Article."

So I followed the instructions here to select the fields I want to display and threw a little HTML around them and hit the Update button. I would then expect that when I go to the URL for any single page Article, that I'd see my new layout but the layout is the old default layout.

Note: In the instructions it says that I should expect to get a little warning icon that this new layout is going to be applied to existing Articles but I never got that working. I have about 580 existing Articles. So I should have gotten that warning, right?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
