Problems with conditional filter for a view query

I have a type called Shows and a type called Performances. A Show can be the parent of many Performances. The Performance type has a custom field called date-of-performance.

Right now I have 4 performances with the dates of September 18, September 25, October 2 and October 9. On the Show page, I'd like to include a view which corresponds to the next Performance (by date).

I have three filters:

* Performances, ordered by Field – wpcf-date-of-performance, descending, limit to 1 item
* Select related posts that are a child of the post where this View is inserted.
* Select posts with custom fields: wpcf-date-of-performance >= TODAY()

The first two filters seem to work. When I delete the 3rd one, it does show the title and body of the the next performance (September 18). However, when I add the third filter, the view comes back "no posts found". If I don't include the 3rd one, however I'll have to delete old performances to make sure the correct one shows up, something I'd rather not do.

In that third filter is it looking for the custom field of the parent Show post? If it is, it wouldn't find it. Is there something else I might have messed up?
