Categorization Question

Hello,

Here is my URL – http://em.eidev.me

The result I am hoping to achieve is to allow the end user through the use of a dropdown select menu in a sidebar to navigate to an archive page.

Here is an example:

Custom Post Type – Attractions
Custom Taxonomy – Cities

My client now wants to further categorize all 'attractions' in one of the following:

Museums
Parks & Recreation
Animal Encounters
Performances & Shows
Water Activities
Sports & Adventure
Garden & Nature
Amusement Parks
Guided Tours
Seasonal

Right now I have experimented with adding these as child categories with their parents being each city – Atlanta, Boston, Memphis, etc.

You can see in the sidebar that I've installed the 'Category' list widget. I like how it displays the parent and child yet I don't particularly like that the city name is appended onto the child category, eg., (sports-museums-atlanta) because all the child categories are the same under each parent (city) and understand the slug has to be unique. I do want this action to take place and for a user to go directly to an 'Atlanta' > 'Sports & Museum' archive page.

Is there a way to create a child taxonomy such as 'Attraction Type' where the parent is 'Cities' with Types and Views?

If so, is there a good way to use some kind of dropdown select widget to accomplish what I am wanting to do?
